Health Problems...
The correlation between a fitness programme and the increased nutritional demands of the body is often overlooked and misunderstood. As a consequence, over time, the lack of certain nutrients can reduce the body’s performance and cause health issues.
The sugar and caffeine hazard...
For many years the sports industry has been dominated by companies who promote stimulant products which can adversely affect our health.
For example, many energy stimulating products contain sugar and caffeine. Sugar temporarily raises the blood sugar and provides a burst of energy but ironically results in a drop in blood sugar.
The person becomes fatigued, has a lack of stamina, excess sugar is stored as fat, an imbalance of hormones are created and regular use increases the risk of health problems including type II diabetes.
Anti-nutrient supplements...
Caffeine is an ‘anti-nutrient’ as it removes important bone minerals. For example the amount of caffeine found in two cups of coffee or a similar quantity in a sports supplement will remove approximately 250mg of calcium from the body, potentially weakening the structural system.
